A DAY of SPORTS and SUN

Saturday, October 02, 2010 This morning, Judy and I were off to see Alexa’s soccer game. It was at a park south of “their” Smith’s. Alexa was funny. Greg says that in practice she is more focused but at the games she mostly runs around next to other kids and visits. Once in a while if the ball fortuitously stops in front of her, she will kick it. She did in fact one time dribble the ball down the field ten/fifteen feet. It is funny, those four year-olds, even when the ball is right in front of the goal with no opposition they can still miss it and it isn’t just Alexa’s team, the other team was that way too though all in all they were the better team. Alexa’s team, the Bumble Bees lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 2/3 for their team to perhaps as many as twenty points for the opponents. But, nobody seemed to care including the coaches. Greg, who I guess is the “head” coach, seems to get the biggest laugh out of it. He even rooted the other team on when they were about to score and Alexa’s team was nowhere to be seen. They are learning the game and I assume, learning to appreciate it. Holly Forsyth Smith’s little Jeffery is on Alexa’s team. He is a ball of fire and the best one on the team. In huddles, he is on the outside running circles around the rest of the team. A little hyper it seems. Gavin hung out with the other coach’s family. They are neighbors of theirs and he wants to be at their house all the time. Later he and Grandma (Judy) did go to the playground for a while until Gavin slid down the big slide and landed hard on his bottom on the ground. After Alexa’s game, we headed in the direction of Bailey’s soccer game. I guess someone didn’t read the schedule right because there wasn’t one. We climbed in with Corey, Jayden and Bailey, met Wayne, the other grandpa at Wal-Mart and he followed us to Jayden’s football game in Alpine. Jayden and Corey were supposed to be there an hour early for warm-ups. As mentioned before, Corey is one of the assistant coaches. We were a little late but not bad. We watched one of the other West Lake teams beat a Lehi team then watched as Jayden’s team beat another Lehi team 26-14. They looked pretty good for the most part. After nearly two hours, Judy was pretty much sunburned on the face and left side of her neck. She said this is the second week in a row having the sun beat down on her left side. Bailey for the most part ran around with Dia Prins who lives in our ward. Since she found out (last week) that Dia is in our ward she wants to come over, and today even asked if she could stay overnight with us. Stacey nixed it because she wanted the whole family together this weekend since Corey will be gone all next week on business in Baltimore and Jayden will be spending a night or two (whatever it is) at a camp sponsored by his school. Next year Bailey will be able to go. It is for fifth and sixth graders. Dia’s mother is all in favor of having Bailey for Dia to play with. Bailey bragged at one point about how she is better than Jayden at making friends. I don’t think that is true but Bailey goes out of her way to do so anytime she is out in public. BAM! a new best friend!

SERVING NOTICE

POOL CLOSING Our neighborhood pool is going to be closed all next week for its semiannual servicing. In the local paper it said that they will be putting in a new system to better keep the water temperature regulated.

BIRTHDAY LUNCH

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2010 Today, my boys took me to Simply Sushi for all-you-can-eat sushi for lunch. Chris came in to town yesterday so he was there. Sierra skipped school because she has walking pneumonia so she came with Chris and of course Greg and Michael came too; obviously Jim and Corey are included in “my boys.” Sierra kept coughing into her shirt though not too often. Poor girl! As usual, we all stuffed ourselves and needed to be rolled out to our cars in wheelbarrows (figure of speech). I thought to take my camera so you may get a few pictures though not too many and not too great. Sierra and I each shot a couple.

PNEUMONIA

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 Sierra’s facebook page, she says: pneumonia. awesome. Pun intended, I’m sure. She has been sickly for some time now. I was worried that there was something wrong with her. Hopefully that is all it is. Chris is in town or will be in the next couple of days.

SILLIER YET

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 Today was another silly day with kids. Jayden and Bailey got off at 1:45 for some teacher…something-or-other so we had plenty of time to get nutty. At one point we were in the kitchen of their house giggling and goofing off when in reaction to something I said, Jayden said “I’m going to put my foot up your…beep!” Beep” is the word he used. I laughed and said “Where, up your mouth…up your shirt?” Jayden started laughing. That made me start laughing. And Bailey, who had just swigged a large mouthful of milk and hadn’t swallowed it yet started laughing so hard that the milk came spewing out of her mouth and her nose. Fortunately we were sitting around the island in the kitchen and the floor was stone and not in the living room where it was carpet. I cleaned it up. Then they went outside to play with some neighbor kids. Jayden’s football ended up in the window well of the unit next door to the neighbors. It is a vacant home. They were afraid to jump in and get it because of the bugs down there. They said there was a black widow but they had drown it with water from the hose. It probable receded off somewhere. Bailey came running in the house asking me to help them. We grabbed a broom handle from the garage and ran over there. There were a handful of kids screaming and pointing. Jayden asked me to climb down and retrieve his ball for him. I told him there was no way this old body could do that. I reassured them that it was safe now. All there was was a couple of black beadles left and one of them Jayden killed, cracking its back with end of the broom handle. Jayden asked me to hold him by the ankles and lower him down to the ball but after I started lowering him down he changed his mind. Finally he worked up his courage, jumped down threw the ball out and scampered back up as fast as he could. Later it turned into and water fight. By the time it was all over both Bailey and Jayden were quite wet. Jayden was soaked including his tennies. He changed into a pair of white shorts and his boots. That was a sight to behold. He was even laughing at himself for how he looked. Later Corey called and asked if I would take the kids to Wal-Mart and meet him there since he needed to pick up some groceries. Bailey sat next to me up front. She and I got loud and were making funny noises to the point that Jayden in the back seat was shaking his head in disgust.
