TYPICAL FRIDAY

Friday, January 06, 2012
Today, like Monday’s, it was my day to stay with Jayden and Bailey after school until Corey got home. Jayden immediately took off to play at the park.
I guess it was Bailey’s turn to keep track of Jayden (kidding). After a while she took off to the park to play too. Soon after, she came home and said, “Jayden’s not at the park. I think he went to Zach and Cameron’s.” (I’m not sure of the spelling of the boy’s names.)
Zach and Cameron are twins that live two or three blocks east then south of Corey’s. They don’t look anything alike and one is about a foot taller than the other.
I was lying on Corey and Stacey’s bed. I have had a headache since last night and a gut ache all day. I even took a prescription pain killer at a quarter of four this morning to no avail.
Bailey kept coming home and letting me know she was home and where Jayden was: “Yes Jayden is at Zach and Cameron’s.”
Later Jaden came home on one of the boys’ bikes to get a video game to take back and play. He decided he couldn’t ride the bike and carry the game at the same time so he asked if I would drive the game there for him. I got there before he did. I have been there many times.
A little later he called and asked me to “come and get me.” It wasn’t the game he wanted and couldn’t find the right one because Bailey and her friends had been using it and didn’t put it away. It was also time to celebrate Zach and Cameron’s mother’s birthday.
We had hardly sat down after coming home when Jayden said, “Oh crap, what time is it.” “A quarter to five.” “I was supposed to meet Christina at the school and ‘hang out. She’s going to be pissed.’” I’m trying to break him of using that word. I asked him if he wanted me to drive him to the school to which he answered yes.
I let him out where he could quickly run around to the back of the school and he soon disappeared. A few minutes later he came walking back; no Christina.

As a side note, we ate dinner at the One Man Band Diner. I saw that Jayden’s glass was empty so I grabbed it, went over to the soda dispenser and filled it back up with Coke. Jayden was so impressed that I would do that, that his mouth gapping open. Finally he got a mischief grin on his face, pointed at his dad and said, “I was waiting for the Jolly Jump Up to do it.”
I am always trying to put concepts in his head without being pushy or demanding. Unless it's Gavin, Jayden is the most apt to take it positively.
Judy was in Clearfield watching Sierra dance her solo.

FUN WITH THE CHAZEN'S

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Judy called and told me to drive to Niki’s. Judy was picking up dinner and taking it to her and the kids. She ended up going to Oliver Garden at The District. I had lasagna.
I of course played with the kids. They, especially Gavin demand a lot of my attention.
At one point I jokingly said, “I had better watch what I say (and do), Gavin imitates everything that comes out of my mouth; (and my actions.)” Both Niki and Judy answered with an emphatic “YES”.
Gavie will often call me Gavie and call himself Grandpa.
After all this time he is still singing the song I made up the last time I took him to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point; “Gavie and Grandpa are monkeys up in a tree, eating potato chips.”
When Niki went to the doctor, they discovered that some of the muscles haven’t knitted back together from after her C-Section and she should just sit around for the next six weeks; (Fat chance) she was even struggling carrying baby Gracie (Grazi as I have chosen to call her.)
I had gotten to their house first and when they arrived from Grannie’s house I had to help her by carrying Grazi in from the car.
Grazi (Gracie) sure is a good baby and Niki says she can sleep through anything. Niki was trying to hush the kids up but they kept running and screaming and Gracie slept right through it.
Niki spent much of the day at her mother-in-law Grannie Lynn Chazen’s house but tonight was Erik’s night to go to see the Jazz play and he and Dave (Grandpa Chazen) and Greg and I think Michael went. At that point Niki and the kids went home.

Niki couldn’t ask for better in-laws than Dave and Lynn.

WHITE ELEPHANT

Sunday, January 01, 2012

Judy is in Minneapolis visiting with her mother. They do this every New Years. She called at a little before 7:00 last night to remind me of the old fogies New Year’s party at the club house. She reminded me to take a mug for soup and a white elephant as a gag gift.
It was lots of fun but by 11:00 p.m. when we had to be out because the computer would be locking the place up, I was ready to go.
As a white elephant gift I took an adult diaper in its original package then hidden in a gift bag with white tissue paper. We had four sets of dice which we passed around and whoever rolled doubles got to trade what they had for something from someone else.
Terry Woolsey got the diaper originally and soon traded it away but it kept coming back to him. He had it at least three times.

GRACELYNN NOEL CHAZEN

From my journal:
Wednesday, December 21, 2011
Last night, Judy, Alexa, Gavin and I accompanied Greg to the hospital to see Gracelynn and to see how Niki was doing. Gracie is beautiful and Niki is doing great. Gracie has dark hair. Lynn, her other grandmother said, “Finally, one that looks like the Chazens.” Eric; Greg’s brother had a big grin in his face.
Alexa and Gavin kept taking turns holding the baby, Gavin with Greg’s help. Gavin had a silly grin on his face and Alexa kept patting the baby’s head, smiling and saying “She’s so cute, she’s so cute.”
Three year old Gavin got all teary-eyed and wanted Mommy to come home with him; she is staying in the hospital until Friday and possible Saturday.
Judy and the kids and I ate dinner in the (Riverton) hospital cafeteria; the Wind River Grill. The kids had chicken nuggets and Judy and I had cheeseburgers and of course, Diet Coke. Alexa had chocolate milk and Gavin drank orange juice.
My brother Brent and his wife Linda called this morning to offer congratulations and to see how everyone is doing.
My cousin Sherilyn and I exchanged the following e-mails.

MAMA

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 –My mother was wiser than I thought at that age.
I have always been sentimental, crying over sad songs etc. (Going back to 4 July 1948 again-pivotal date in my life.)

One day I was singing Tommy Edward’s “she is on the Morning side of the Mountain and I am on the twilight side of the hill."
Mother put her arm around me and said, “You know what that song is about don’t you, it’s about an older man in love with a younger woman.”

I miss my mama!

UNDER WEAR? - Good thing I can laugh at myself

Monday, December 12, 2011
When my Jayden; now age twelve was in diapers, I said
in front of my mother and someone else; maybe Brent, “My grandson wears Huggies and mother wears hugies,” to which my mother got angry.
Fortunately I learned years ago not to take myself serious and to laugh at myself.
Lately; the last couple of years, I have been having more and more trouble with leakage and the last year or so I have been acting out my dreams, kicking and trashing. One time I threw myself out of bed and landed on the floor hurting myself slightly. A couple of times I dreamed I was going to the bathroom. One of those times I woke up in time and one time I didn’t.

The night before last I told Judy that I was having problems and that the day before I went to the bathroom to discover via evidence that I had wet my pants semi-severely and didn’t even know it until I saw the evidence, who knows how long after the fact.
Judy went out and bought me a bag of L-XL adult, male diapers. I expected some huge things that showed unless I was wearing a mumu and which made me bowlegged. Thankfully they are very comfortable and I feel much more at ease wearing them.
The only drawback is that I have to drop everything to go number one.

No photos forthcoming.

RAPPING or WRAPPING

Thursday, December 08, 2011

Last night Judy and I were at Niki and Greg’s. Judy helped Niki wrap Christmas gifts while I distracted Alexa and Gavin.
By the way, Niki is huge with child. Gracie or whatever her name is couldn’t come too soon to suit the mother.
Niki had made Lion House recipe chicken noodle soup. Good stuff!
Alexa ended up helping with the wrapping of the things that aren’t from Santa. Mostly taking them from the home office into the living room and putting them under the Christmas tree.
At one point Niki was complaining about being tired. Judy said that she was tired too.
Alexa said, “Mom, you go to bed. Grandma, go home. I can wrap the rest of the presents.”
I guess someone asked her if she knew how to wrap presents. She said, “Yes, you cut paper, wrap it around the present, put some tape on it and put a bow on it.”
It would interesting to see a five year old do it on her own and have it turn out looking nice.
At least she’s thinking.

Greg had gotten into his grubbies ready to paint the toy room upstairs in preparation for it being Alexa’s room so the new baby can have Alexa’s old one. He had no sooner gotten ready when Scott, a neighbor called saying he had an extra ticket to the University of Utah basketball game and invited him to go with him.
I don’t know how much of good time he had; the Utes got killed; again; this time by Cal State Fullerton. They have the worst record in school history.
(BYU again blew out their opponent [Weber State]. BYU and Utah play each other Saturday if I remember correctly.)

Gavin and I played and had a good time. He has a red plastic toy camera and he was pretending to take pictures of me. He kept telling me to say cheese, pushing the button then handing me the cheese. When you push the shutter button a little piece of plastic cheese pops up. After a while he announced, “I’m going to take (the camera) into my workshop and fix it.” He left the room for a minute then came back and told me that it was fixed.
Later we were in the toy room upstairs playing “library.” He told me we had to be quiet in the library. He got a couple of books and turned the pages. Then he said, “Those (imaginary) kids are being bad. I’m going to take their book away from them.”
He walked across the room, picked a book up off the floor and put it up on a shelf.
I wonder if they have a library in his preschool.

In all fairness to the Utes I am adding what Wikipedia has to say about the Utes.

The University of Utah Utes have consistently been one of the most successful basketball programs in the NCAA.
